HVOF, flame wire and flame powder spraying

Thermal coating is a universally applicable surface coating process in which a mostly powder or wire-shaped coating material with high thermal and / or kinetic energy is spun onto a component surface and forms a layer there. With a large number of available process variants, a wide range of materials such as metals and ceramics, but also high-performance polymers, can be processed into technical coatings. The layer thicknesses range from approx. 30 μm to several millimeters.

The flexibility of the process and the different variants of HVOF, flame wire and flame powder spraying represent the optimal basis for use for wear protection, corrosion protection and reconditioning of components.

A very wide range of materials can be processed with this method. The layers produced by means of HVOF are characterized by

  • High strength

  • Low porosity

  • High surface hardness

Advantages of thermal spraying

  • No heating of the components through the local heat source

  • Almost every component size and geometry can be coated

  • Very good reproducibility

  • High quality standard

Reconditioning of components

Components are often worn in localized areas. Most of the time, the remaining areas of the components are completely in order and a new purchase is expensive and time-consuming.

The refurbishment of this area with high-strength coatings enables the cost-effective further use of the components with a longer service life compared to the original condition.

Various materials are available for this. Ranging from aluminum to steel to high-strength tungsten carbide alloys.
Refurbished components are often more durable than the original.
The very short lead time of a few hours to a maximum of a few weeks, reduces the downtime of the systems concerned and lowers downtime costs.
The in-house analysis of the material also enables the reconditioning of very old components whose material is no longer known.

Wear protection and corrosion protection

Piston rods, pump shafts, rollers and many other components are subject to wear and corrosion.

With an optimized coating using thermal spraying, wear and corrosion can be minimized under the toughest operating conditions.

Depending on the application, very thin layers of less than µm or thick layers of up to several mm are used.
The layers are used as injected, sealed or sintered. The post-treatment determines the quality of the coating and the degree of connection to the base material.

In combination with the laser process used at innojoin, it is possible to produce very dense layers that are metallurgically bonded to the base material.
innojoin is constantly developing these process variants and uses the in-house laboratory to examine the layer structure and quality as well as the mechanical and technological properties.
